For Riga Contemporary 2026, Kim? presents a new body of work by Lat- vian artist Karlīna Mežecka, where ceramics, glass, metal and installa- tions unfold into a fluid sculptural language that traces how materials absorb pressure, shift states, and move through processes of transfor- mation and exchange. A series of wall-based ceramic works and two freestanding metal struc- tures supporting blown-glass elements continue the artist’s sustained investigation into the relationship between material process, bodily presence and spatial experience. Developed through an experimen- tal engagement with the physical properties of ceramics and glass, the works explore the capacities and constraints of each material, allowing heat, gravity and unpredictability to shape surface and form. Ceramics appear stretched, compressed or fractured from within, while blown glass assumes ambiguous, organic configurations that evoke breath, growth or accumulation. Reflective surfaces and watery translucence introduce a visual language of mediated intimacy, suggesting that pro- cesses of formation and disruption remain inseparable. Throughout the presentation, traces of the body persist without ever be- coming fully fixed, emerging as unstable figurations that move between organism and artefact, vulnerability and endurance. Scale and view- point are central to the installation: the wall-mounted ceramics encour- age close, frontal encounters, while the freestanding structures shift the viewer’s position in relation to the suspended glass forms, making perception an active part of the work. Fracture, repair and material ad- aptation unfold as stages within an ongoing process, where the behav- iour of ceramics and glass offer a way of thinking through embodiment, emotional experience and the permeable relationship between interior and exterior. These new works enter into close dialogue with Mežecka’s current solo exhibition Stare Up At Me (on view at the Kim? venue at Sporta iela 2), extending its exploration of bodies suspended between emergence and dissolution, intimacy and estrangement, while translating those con- cerns into a distinct spatial and material context. €3,500.00 (incl. plint)
