In the 1970s, Ion Grigorescu conducted private body-art experiments in his own home, recording solitary performances centered on the interaction between his body and the camera. Driven by an interest in studying movement, he overcame a lack of technical resources by modifying and building his own equipment, experimenting with custom-built wide-angle and distorted lenses to achieve unpredictable results. This dynamic photographic approach is highlighted in works like Dilatation and Wide Interior (1980). By rotating the camera on a tripod while manually rolling the film behind open lens, the deliberate lack of coordination between the two movements created a panoramic effect that stretched and doubled the captured objects.
